Financial Stress, Pain, and Your Health

stress and painResearch shows that financial stress can, and often does, lead to health problems. People with monetary worries have an increased risk of suffering from heart attacks, back pain, ulcers and migraines, among other ailments. While this news is by no means surprising, the true toll that this can take on your health can be.

Those who stressed over debt were twice as likely to have heart attacks as those who did not have this concern. Furthermore, polling revealed that twenty-seven percent of people with high financial stress reported ulcers or digestive problems, but only eight percent of people without financial worries reported these conditions. These results were mirrored in those who suffered from migraines, back pain, and muscle tension.

There was, however, an upside to this study: people who take steps to gain control of their finances can decrease their stress and thereby their risk for the conditions associated with it.
